SAKHEE
Sambhavna – Sakhee Program
Overview
The Sakhee program is unique for its focus on **peer learning**, where peer groups offer support, foster friendships, and drive social change. Named “Sakhee” meaning friendship, the program is designed to empower women through skill-building in rural areas, aligning with the organization’s mission to foster economic independence for women, children, and people with disabilities.
Launch and Centres
The first Sakhee centre opened in Gharbara, a rural village in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on September 16, 2021. Here, the program focuses on stitching and beauty treatment—skills with strong employment potential. These skill-based trainings also encourage participants to start their own businesses. A second centre operates in Danapur, Patna, Bihar, offering training primarily to women and girls from underprivileged Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes especially Nomadic Tribes.
Impact
Since inception, Sakhee at Gharbara has trained approximately 150 women and girls from marginalized backgrounds. Many graduates have established enterprises, providing services locally for events such as weddings and parties, often visiting clients directly. Others work from home, receiving positive community feedback. A standout success is Ms. Shivani, a first-batch trainee who now serves as an instructor and coordinator for the project.
Future Plans
The Sakhee program aims to expand by opening additional centers and introducing more market-driven skills to further support poverty reduction and economic empowerment.
Project Goals and Objectives
The objectives are focused on skill-building, economic empowerment, and fostering independence for women in marginalized communities, in alignment with the organization’s broader mission.
